In news concerning film, the Coen Brothers (Joel and Ethan for any of you non Coenies) have a new movie coming out. A Serious Man is a black comedy set in St. Louis Park, Minnesota in the year 1967. The film stars Michael Stuhlbarg as Larry Gopnik, a Jewish educator who is having a midlife crisis of sorts from the fact that his wife, Judith (Sari Wagner Lennick) is contemplating leaving him for one of his colleagues, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed). All while his son and daughter are stealing from him to purchase vain things, (his son; marijuana. his daughter; a nose job) a student who tries to bribe Larry, but, in failing to do so, threatens to sue him for defamation, which would seriously hurt his chances of being kept on at his job, where he is up for tenure. This, hopefully, is another great black comedy from the duo. The dark humor of their works is always right on, never too bleak but always superbly deadpan. This looks to be another Coen Brothers comedy masterpiece a la Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?
